What is the Radio Merit Badge?

The Radio Merit Badge is a badge offered by the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) that is designed to teach Scouts about the principles of radio communication and electronics. In order to earn the Radio Merit Badge, a Scout must demonstrate an understanding of the history of radio communication, the uses of radio, radio safety, and radio regulations.

Scouts must also demonstrate practical skills, including how to send and receive a message in Morse code, how to properly tune and operate a radio, and how to set up and use antennas.

The Radio Merit Badge is intended to teach Scouts about the technical and practical aspects of radio communication and electronics, as well as the important role that radio plays in emergency communication and public service. The badge requirements are designed to challenge Scouts and encourage them to explore the many different aspects of radio communication.
